The Campus Efeuweg project is both an educational policy and an overall urban planning and construction concept that will contribute to upgrading the entire residential environment and thus to a better quality of life in Gropiusstadt by strengthening the educational location.

In 2014, the Neukölln district authority of Berlin adopted a master plan for the further development of Campus Efeuweg as a holistic educational, sports and leisure landscape. Building on the educational concept of the schools, an ambitious urban planning, open space planning and structural engineering framework was created for the realization of the overall project. The concept includes the community school model, which enables joint learning from the first grade to the Abitur.

From March 2016 to Dec. 2019, Hella Rolfes and Claudia Schelp acted as external coordinators on behalf of the Neukölln district office, providing technical, content-related and organizational support for the campus project process and further developing concepts that had already been developed. A special focus was on the coordination of the construction measures as well as on the networking of the actors and the respective offers on the campus. In several participation processes in different formats, future plans were presented and discussed, the respective wishes and needs were recorded and the feasibility was examined. The results are the subject of further structural and landscape planning concepts, which are repeatedly examined and fed back in the process.

As part of the planned construction measures, the existing school facilities will be comprehensively repaired, renovated and expanded, and supplemented by new buildings. The planning and realization will follow new pedagogical guidelines and concepts, which will enable learning in learning clusters in the bounded all-day schooling in the elementary as well as in the secondary level. An important milestone in campus development in 2017 was the approval of federal funding from the "National Projects in Urban Development" program for the further development of the Campus Efeuweg master planning and for the "Center for Language and Movement" project as a new learning and leisure location on the campus grounds.
